What A Year!

Cupcake Camp Santa Barbara is just one month away! For those of you who don’t know, I hold a very special place in my heart for this particular Cupcake Camp. While I was happily baking the days away in my kitchen at home, photographing, blogging and eating these delights, I became exposed to the greater world of cupcakes through Cupcake Camp Santa Barbara.

It was about this time last year April approached me with a challenge. She challenged me to enter into the Cupcake Camp as an amateur baker and compete for the best tasting cupcake in town. Although I didn’t win – in any category, I did get to take home a huge sense of accomplishment and more confidence in my role as a cupcake baker for causes.

Baking cupcakes is a very sought after talent, let me tell you. Beyond baking for causes, I also bake several orders of cupcakes by special request. My most popular cupcake, which first debuted at Cupcake Camp Santa Barbara, is my signature Pink Piper Champagne Cupcake. It was that day as well that April became my designated and official cupcake partner in crime.

How quickly a year comes and goes! Sadly, this year I won’t be able to participate as a cupcake baker in the camp, but I will absolutely be there to taste away! Who’s with me?

Happy Father's Day!

Me & my dad at Cupcake Camp LA Me & my dad at Cupcake Camp LA

It’s Father’s Day next week and I’ve been pondering on the best way to celebrate my dad, or B Pipes as Ashley calls him. Brion Piper, a man of much knowledge and wisdom with the most typical arsenal of dad jokes you’ve ever heard. And although I’ve never seen it, he says he owns a shotgun, potential suitors beware.

Cupcakes are a special treat for my dad. He’s always been a huge supporter of my cupcake baking and for that I owe him more than a dozen or even two dozen specially baked cupcakes. Actually, I do owe him a lot more even for the time I had him taste test an extra special batch. What he didn’t know was that these cupcakes were to be called PupCakes! Now I know, it’s a cruel joke to play on my pops, but the ingredients are all natural I can assure you!

So what can I do this year to really celebrate my dad? I’m actually going to skip the tempting sweets and save his blood sugar an overdose. I know, I know – this blog is about cupcakes! Well to be honest, nobody should be gifted a dozen cupcakes unless you have eleven friends you know who will eat them. Even so, a room full of friends and family couldn't deter B Pipes from inhaling a dozen cupcakes quicker than you can say “Happy Father’s Day!”

This year, my dad will be receiving.. a ha! Brion! You’ll just have to wait the week to see.

Jelly Belly $10k Cupcake Decorating Contest

It's a Jelly Belly Starry Night by Valerie D. It's a Jelly Belly Starry Night by Valerie D.

No baking skills required! I can’t believe I just found out about this contest, but apparently the promotion began November 2010 and ends next month on July 31, 2011.

What do you think the chances are of winning a cupcake decorating contest 7 months in? The highest rated cupcake designs are pretty intricate, i'm guessing these entries have been building votes for awhile.

Anyone enter already? I will happily support your decorated cupcake with my vote, let me know!
