Rainbow Cupcakes

A friend of mine sent me a link to this Rainbow Cupcake recipe. I decided to try it, and top it with my favorite cream cheese frosting recipe from Martha Stewart's Cupcake Book.

These were so much fun to make, and even more fun to watch everyone "ooo" and "aww" as they ate through the colorful little cake.

I unwrapped the cupcakes once they were cooled and placed them into these short little candy trays, you can see in the picture. I thought it would be a nice way to display the colors, but I think I will leave them wrapped as is for next time.

The Frosting:

Well you know how I feel about the frosting, it was an amazing recipe that I used for the Red Velvet Cupcakes. I love the way you can pipe it to look like little clouds too.

The Cupcake:

The cupcake didn't really have any specific flavor, which I thought was interesting. It was just a basic batter divided up into bowls, and each were dyed in colors of the rainbow.

For the cupcake contest, I was thinking it would be beautiful to make sunset colors and call them "Santa Barbara Sunset Cupcakes." This would be for the Best Santa Barbara Theme.

Overall Review:

These cupcakes were so tasty and the frosting was the perfect choice. I would love the play around with flavors and colors and somehow turn this basic recipe into a gourmet treat.

They're gorgeous! You really did that recipe justice. I've got my money on you for the contest. PS can I get the details on that? Maybe I could come show my support?
